Cascade Stables has assembled a staff of professional instructors that is second to none. From owner/trainer Barbe Smith to her staff of assistant trainers and instructors, our first and foremost concern is providing riders and horses with a safe and supportive environment in which to learn and develop.
Our staff brings decades of experience and expertise to the training of your horse and instruction of your rider. We are dedicated to helping you enjoy your horse experience, whether your goal is simply to get on a horse for the first time or hone your skills in hopes of competing for a World's Championship.

Barbe began riding at Audubon Stables in 1963 and has operated Cascade Stables in Audubon Park since 1981. She has coached riders to World's and National Championships and has had riders selected to the U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team, for which she has also served as a coach. Barbe is well respected in the industry and has been at the forefront of the horse business for many years, both locally and nationally. She serves on the United Professional Horseman's Association's board of directors and its equitation committee. She has served as vice president of the Louisiana American Saddlebred Horse Association and is a USEF licensed judge. In 2010, she was inducted into the Helen Crabtree Instructor Hall of Fame.

Avery joined the Cascade staff in December of 2012 after graduating from William Woods University with a degree in Equestrian Science. A Texas native, Avery began her riding career under the direction of Patty Milligan in 1996 and competed on the local, regional and national level for many years. She is currently a member of the United Professional Horseman’s Association and serves on the Louisiana American Saddlebred Association’s board of directors.
